Hybri-Flex® System Contributes to LEED® Certification

Toyota of El Cajon is a family-owned business in southern California that takes pride in exceeding their customer’s expectations. They recently announced the opening of their new location, an eco-friendly facility was developed to provide added comfort and convenience for their customers. They are especially proud of the fact that it is also the first LEED® certified building in El Cajon.

The previous floor in the new location was 15-year-old concrete that, over the years, saw its fair share of stains from a variety of products. An additional challenge was uncovered during moisture testing when they encountered readings averaging 5 – 7 lbs. / 1,000 square feet / 24 hours – substantially more than the 3 lbs. typically allowed for most resinous flooring. The new floor would also need to deal with oil, grease and other liquids typically found in an automotive service center. The goal was to improve the appearance and the durability of the floor, while keeping it as low maintenance as possible. Utilizing products that qualified for LEED® credits were also a key component.

Given these challenges, a Hybri-Flex® EB system was recommended; known for its ability to tolerate up to 12 lbs. of moisture vapor and its superior bonding. Hybri-Flex is Dur-A-Flex’s hybrid series of high performance flooring systems. Where most resinous flooring systems consist of epoxy, urethane or MMA resins, Hybri-Flex surpasses these by combining two or more of these resins to harness their key attributes and creating an all-inclusive flooring solution. The Hybri-Flex EB system installed utilizes a self-leveling, cementitious urethane base coat combined with epoxy and urethane topcoats to provide a ¼ inch thick, moisture tolerant, durable and low maintenance floor. The EB system also features a quartz aggregate broadcast providing a slip resistant surface.
