Dur-A-Flex Inc., a family-owned manufacturer of high-performance, resinous floor and wall systems is celebrating two notable achievements: fifty five years in business and being recognized as one of Connecticut’s “Best Places to Work” by the Hartford Business Journal. The timing of these two events may be coincidental, but these achievements certainly aren’t independent of one another. They are a testament to a winning formula of developing and nurturing a trusting and empowering company culture to support growth.
The company has been recognized as a Connecticut “Best Places to Work” by the Hartford Business Journal six times. 2007 was the first time Dur-A-Flex was named and ranked in this prestigious category, followed by ’08, ’10, ’11, ’14 and now 2021. To make this esteemed list organizations are vetted and chosen by the Best Companies Group, a third-party research firm based out of Harrisburg, Penn. Multiple factors are considered including employees’ thoughts and commentary on their compensation, safety and well-being, office atmosphere, and job security. This year, how companies navigated the COVID-19 pandemic was also taken into consideration.

Achieving this anniversary milestone of 55 years in business is no small task, and the secret to success lies in the establishment of an environment that appreciates, recognizes and respects its people.
“We are proud of our company, our leadership and all of our team members for the organization and culture we have created,” said Peter V. Ferris, President and COO. “We promote a culture of ‘ownership’ that energizes, engages and inspires others and is evident in our customer relationships and long-lasting partnerships.”
Dur-A-Flex, Inc. started with humble beginnings, a team of five, a single product line, and one 1,600 square foot facility. Today Dur-A-Flex, Inc. maintains its headquarters in East Hartford, Connecticut, with a primary facility providing 157,000 square feet of production and office space and has expanded to hundreds of products. To ensure customer satisfaction and timely service, Dur-A-Flex maintains three distribution centers strategically located in the United States. While the team has grown from five to more than 100 people, the company philosophy of being present and living in the moment remain unchanged.
There is tremendous pride for Dur-A-Flex and its continued status as a family-owned manufacturing company. Ownership continues to invest strategically to support growth and the team looks forward to another fifty five great years.
