Use Proper Lighting for Cove Bases

June 12, 2018

Producing a great looking cove base requires lighting that highlights the application marks during installation. (This is when they can be easily corrected.)

The light source should be low to the ground with the light beam focused down the length of the cove so that a shadow will be cast wherever there are marks from the cove trowel. A small 250w halogen work light works well, but my personal favorite is the Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ Hybrid 20-Watts LED Work Light, Model # P721.

Although this light can run off a standard extension cord, its real advantage is the removable battery pack that provides up to several hours of mobile, cool light with no extension cord to tug into your nicely finished cove corners.
